Dates throughout October to 6th December 2026 check the link at the end of the section for the events calendar or contact us and we’ll give you the full insiders guide!
The Alba International White Truffle Fair is world-famous, drawing tens of thousands of visitors every autumn to celebrate one of the planet's most valuable culinary treasures. But while Alba takes the global spotlight, it doesn’t host James Bond... That claim to fame belongs to a much closer, insider secret: the Moncalvo Truffle Fair.
If you love gastronomy, autumn is the ultimate season to visit Piedmont. Here is how to experience both the mega-event in Alba and the intimate, local charm of Moncalvo—all just a short drive from Number 18.
Gram for gram, the prized white truffle of Alba (*Tuber magnatum pico*) is one of the world's most valuable natural foods. Known for its intense aroma and complex flavour, it draws top chefs, serious foodies, and curious travellers from every corner of the globe.
At the heart of the fair is the World Truffle Market. Here, enthusiasts (or trufflistas) can buy directly from local trifolao (truffle hunters) and authorised vendors. Every truffle sold is inspected and certified by the Quality Commission, ensuring guaranteed authenticity. Beyond the market, Alba hosts cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and cultural events celebrating the finest Italian traditions. *Insider Tip on Non-Truffle Treats:** I have to admit, I’m not a fan of truffles, for me the flavour is too rich, but thankfully it’s not just about truffles! Specialist producers travel from across Italy to showcase “Made in Italy”.
Keep an eye out for Parmigiano Reggiano vendors—my personal favorite is the creamier 12-month-old variety. Unlike the mature, crumbly versions, it has a smooth texture that pairs perfectly with homemade fig jam. *Planning & Tickets:** Visit the official [Alba Truffle Fair Website](https://www.fieradeltartufo.org/en/) for event calendars and advance entry tickets.
The Insider’s Favourite: Moncalvo Truffle Fair (007 Approved)
18, 24 & 25 October 2026
I won’t explicitly name which James Bond actor frequents the hills around Moncalvo, but local buzz is always high when 007 is spotted in town!
Located in the heart of the Monferrato hills—right on our doorstep—Moncalvo offers a much more intimate, relaxed experience. Held in Piazza Carlo Alberto, this fair packs immense character into a smaller footprint without the massive tourist crowds. Here, you’ll find an incredible cross-section of Italian artisan produce: cold-pressed Sicilian olive oils, regional wines, craft beers, boutique cheeses, and, of course, exceptional local white truffles.

Host Advice: How to Plan Your Truffle Weekend On my most recent visit to the fairs, I was struck by the incredible diversity of people brought together by a shared passion for regional food. To make the most of your day, keep these two practical tips in mind: 1. Visit on the Weekend for Full Atmosphere: While weekdays are quieter, the street markets and traveling stalls fully come alive on Saturdays and Sundays. 2. Book Lunch Well in Advance: Restaurants fill up fast during fair weekends. Remember, lunch in Italy is not something to rush or squeeze between activities—it is a sacred daily ritual to be savored over multiple courses with family and friends.

Its not all truffles, specialist cooperatives from further away in Parma Reggiano bring the best parmesan cheese to try & buy. My personal favourite is the creamier 12 month old, whilst it’s not crumbly like more mature parmesan it has a creamy texture perfect for eating on its own or with home made fig jam on top.
Moncalvo Truffle Fair, a favourite of 007!
I’m not going to say which James Bond prefer the area around Moncalvo and has been seen numerous times here, but needless to say its big news when he does, a quick search will reveal the secret agent!
Moncalvo is a much smaller fair but equally valued by visitors and vendors alike and has as much charisma packed into its spaces! I loved the variety of products from all over Italy, Olive Oil from Sicily, fabulous parmiggiano from Reggio, wines from all over Italy and craft beers, there is a bit of everything for everyone but without the crowds.
The Moncalvo Truffle Fair is on the 18th, 24th & 25th October 2026 The main event hub is located at Piazza Carlo Alberto in Moncalvo, in the heart of the Monferrato hills, for all the details check the link https://www.fieradeltartufodimoncalvo.it/
