Our own produce
We are Mark & Sara and our Italian story really started when Mark was about 5 years old and fell in love with Moto Guzzi's and Alfa Romeo's when first visiting his family in Italy with his mum who was born here in "la bel paese". Subsequent holidays every year sometimes more than once a year became a love & passion for all things Italian and when we met it became a joint love affair!
It was on one of our holidays when the idea to live here and give up a busy lifestyle for something simpler, less hectic, more involved in life and people started to take shape and 5 years later we made the move, with more than a little trepidation into the relative unknown of actually living in Italy without a joint salary and to follow our dream and passion to make a life here. Fast forward 2 years and we are at the start of the next chapter in our Italian dream, the part where we have restored, created and realised a lovelingly made home for guests to glimpse a part of Italian country life while on their holidays, or for Italian guests to experience the rich countryside & heritage of the Monferrato region and all it has to offer.

It surprises us to write this far without mentioning our 3 doggies Zeb, Rosie & Eddie. All 3 are Podenco rescues from Spain, they are lively, playful, kind and goofy! I don't know if Italy is ready for them but they are here and are a big part of our family!
Zeb & Rosie travelled with Sara in the car from the UK while Mark rode his motorbike over, Eddie joined us just before Christmas 2019 and travelled from Gran Canaria to Madrid and then to Milan where Sara went to collect him. He's the baby of the family... not that you'd know it to look at him!
Our experience here has led us to learn many new skills and appreciate home produce. Sara has developed our vegetable garden from scratch and we enjoy fresh fruit & vegetables all spring, summer and early autumn. In fact after Sara had gifted some homemade chutney to a local friend to try, someone came and asked if it was for sale after trying it! DIY has become a daily part of our routine here during the building of Nº18, back home in the UK Mark would get quite giddy after putting a shelf up, now he can turn his hand to most things DIY.
Moving to a new country to make a home and livelyhood was quite daunting but thanks to the kindness and generosity of local people & local professionals who we are now grateful to call friends we are now happily embedded in Italian life.
The Building of Nº18
Originally a barn the construction of Nº18 started in May 2019. The first step was appointing a great architect, structural engineer and a team of skilled builders, plumber and electrician. Work progressed quickly thoughout the summer of 2019 and by the end of the year the structure was in place and in December all the windows fitted to ensure we could close it up for the winter. Then Covid-19 delayed much of the finishing and especially the external areas and garden. It was during lockdown we decided to invest in a swimming pool and by April 2020 work had restarted and the pool construction started in July.
By the end of September 2020 all the construction works were completed and we were able to finish the internal decorating, replanting and re seeding the garden.
A few guests stayed during 2020 although without use of the garden and we were really pleased they enjoyed their stay despite this.
So onto 2021 and we open fully for new guests, we sincerely hope you decide to spend your holiday here at Nº18, we're sure you'll love it!
